Mi Hai Cua - Crab Flavour

Here's one that I picked mostly for the weirdness factor. The Mi Hai Cua brand is imported from Singapore and this particular packet is crab flavoured. The picture on the cover is not particularly appetizing, showing two uncooked blue crabs (they turn red after they've been cooked). Despite previous bad experiences with Unif-100 and Kung-Fu shrimp flavored ramen, I was willing to give this one a shot, mostly just to see what it was like.

Well, the good news is that the seafood flavour wasn't very pervasive. However, the bad news was that the seafood flavour was pretty much nonexistent. I won't say that these noodles were bland, but they certainly lacked distinction. Actually, it reminded me a lot of the other two Shrimp Flavored ramen that I have had before, although this one didn't have as much fishiness as those.

Overall, it was not something that I would throw away, but it was definitely not something I would buy again either. The flavor was certainly not bad, there was just really no flavor besides MSG and salt in here. My advice is to stay away from all seafood related flavors unless they are hot and spicy as well!

  3. I disagree. I love these noodles, and though the flavour does kind of lack distinction, the texture of the noodles are far superior to that of alot of the top brands, like Nissin. It's closest to 'al dente' in terms of instant noodles~

  4. To say the truth, seldom an Asian would pick any Singapore brand in the supermarket logically. I am also surprised to find a SG brand Ramen as well. I believe many products are exported to the West due to not accepted well in Asia.

I really would like you to try the Korean seafood Ramen. They are sometimes better than the Kimchi ramen.

  5. I have to agree with Anonymous 8/21/2011. These noodles are far superior to any of the domestic brands like Nissin Top Ramen. I like that the taste isn't overwhelming like the Top Ramen flavor packets. Haven't found any other imported brands that taste better, but then again I haven't bought that many since most of them cost much more than this brand.

  6. I'm no ramen connoisseur, but this is one of the packs I ate growing up in a Vietnamese family. I haven't seen a pack of these anywhere local for the past 15+ years. I don't know if it's just nostalgia, but I can remember the flavor of these and I crave it more than any of the ramen brands of today. There's also the trend of eating dried ramen like a chip and this Tat Hui brand is also my favorite out of all of today's ramens. Even though I haven't had it in over 15 years, it is still king to my tastebuds.

    1. I agree with you 1000%. I’ve been trying to find these but I haven’t had any luck so it must be discontinued:/
These were a staple in my family’s household and although there’s another mi hai cua at my local supermarkets, it’s not the same and doesn’t even come close to the original flavor that we miss so much
